SEMEN ANALYSIS
Canine semen analysis is a diagnostic procedure that involves the evaluation and assessment of a male dog’s reproductive fluid, known as semen. This analysis provides vital information about the quality, viability, and fertility potential of the dog’s sperm, which is crucial for breeding purposes.
The process of canine semen analysis begins with the collection of a semen sample, which is usually obtained through manual stimulation. The collected semen is then examined and evaluated under a microscope
A stud with great semen plays a significant role in achieving successful breeding outcomes, improving the quality of breeding programs, and ensuring the reproductive health and fertility of male dogs.

SEMEN COLLECTION & FREEZING
Also known as cryopreservation, semen freezing is freezing of semen to a temperature of -196 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the sperm cells are frozen in a static but viable state and will not degrade or perish under the proper storage and handling process. Once thawed, the semen is restored to its pre-frozen form, capable of fertilisation and the results can be comparable to that of chilled semen, when frozen, thawed and inseminated correctly. Collections that aren’t able to freeze will be charged $150 only.
Frozen Semen Storage and Distribution
All semen storage fees will be billed annually every January. The minimum storage fee is $100 for up to 12 straws, an addition fee of $5 per straw thereafter will be added to the minimum storage fee per dog. “Yearly storage fees for new collections after July 1st will be discounted 50%”

SEMEN COLLECTION & ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION (AI)
Once we have the desired stud dog’s semen, we perform Anyalysis report of the semen. Once we have processed the semen it is prepared for insemination of your bitch. A catheter is placed into the bitch’s vagina and held in place while the semen sample is inserted. The process mimics the natural mating process but doesn’t have the overzealous physical contact or the stress of natural matings. Therefore, the semen is inseminated as close to the eggs as possible. This procedure is done while awake, no sedation and it is a stress free process and takes very little time to complete.

FRESH SEMEN COLLECTION & SHIP
Semen is collected from the stud and a Anaylsis is performed for quality before being adding a extender which increases the longevity of the sample. The semen is then cooled slowly, packaged in a temperature controlled shipping box and shipped to the desination of your choice. On arrival, the semen should be warm back to temperature before performing the insemination in the bitch. The longevity of the sample is variable depending on the quality produced by the stud dog, however in general, insemination is recommended between 24hrs – 3 days from the time of collection. In some cases it is possible to achieve longevity up to 10 days, however this is not possible for all dogs and it may correlate with lower fertility results if processed incorrecty.

PROGESTERONE TESTING (PG)
This simple blood test can tell us the level of progesterone within the blood. By comparing this to highly corrolated markers, we can establish where your dog is within her estrus cycle. We will take your dog’s blood sample on site and process the blood for testing in house, the processing and testing will be completed in under 2 hours. If you prefer to bring your own blood sample in to us for testing that is ok as well for same day testing.
VAGINAL CYTOLOGY
A Vaginal Cytology can help determine the timing of your dog’s receptivity period. Once your dog has entered her season, within the first 9 days her estrogen levels will rise. This will then initiate a LH (lutinising hormone) surge and ovulation happens shortly after. The rise in estrogen happens during pro-estrus and drops prior to the LH surge. The cells within the vaginal tract cornify because of the estrogen levels increasing and this can be seen by performing a vaginal smear.
“You can add a Vaginal Cytology while doing your progesterone test for an extra $25.00″
